The History
Same Sky creates new urban rituals to replace those traditional festivals that were lost in the dash to be new and non superstitious. These events take elements of the past, delight in the seasons, celebration of place and home, giving and sharing of thoughts and wishes and put them into a format that can be enjoyed regardless of faith or creed. You can find out about the many other events and projects that Same Sky produce at www.samesky.co.uk.
Burning the Clocks was created in 1995 as a way to celebrate the festive season. The winter solstice offered an alternative to Christmas, and a theme of time that forms the parade each year. The event was created with support from the Co-op and quickly became a much-loved part of the Brighton winter calendar.

Looking forward to the big parade!
I don celebrate christmas in the traditional sense so I look forward to the burning of the clocks because its my last day before I hybernate for winter and I get to see friends and the parade before I close down my hatches as I dont like the COLD weather and prefer to stay home cosy and warm

Last year, I and no doubt many others paid for and assembled their clocks from the kits you provided (I paid about £16 for 2 lanterns) Because of a small amount of snow, the event was cancelled and many children were dissapointed. I have saved these unused lanterns and hope that I can use them in this year's parade.
Thanks for your comment - as you can see on the Join In page in the instructions for coming to the event, we are welcoming families with lanterns from last year to join this years parade. If you don't still have the instructions for the event day, email us and we'll send them out to you. We'll see you there!
