How it happens
Burning the Clocks is produced with a grant from Brighton and Hove City Council and the goodwill of local companies and individuals. The parade consists of around 2,000 participants and attracts audiences of 20,000 people from the region.
John Varah, Artistic Director at Same Sky selects an annual theme each year to incorporate into the clock-making – this means that the parade has new and exciting elements to see every year. Staff at Same Sky and freelance artists work with community groups, secondary schools and the general public to create a wide variety of lanterns, costumes and performances for the event. We are joined every year by 4 local bands who play in the parade free of charge – Carnival Collective, Barhulo, Bloco Fogo and Brighton School of Samba.

Looking forward to the big parade!
I don celebrate christmas in the traditional sense so I look forward to the burning of the clocks because its my last day before I hybernate for winter and I get to see friends and the parade before I close down my hatches as I dont like the COLD weather and prefer to stay home cosy and warm

Last year, I and no doubt many others paid for and assembled their clocks from the kits you provided (I paid about £16 for 2 lanterns) Because of a small amount of snow, the event was cancelled and many children were dissapointed. I have saved these unused lanterns and hope that I can use them in this year's parade.
Thanks for your comment - as you can see on the Join In page in the instructions for coming to the event, we are welcoming families with lanterns from last year to join this years parade. If you don't still have the instructions for the event day, email us and we'll send them out to you. We'll see you there!
